Biomedical Waste
A large portion of non-infectious plastic waste is generated in the biomedical industries, but only a small amount is recycled.
The project aims to analyse the provided medical wastes like PVC, PP, and PET using FTIR spectroscopy and thermal analysis techniques to identify their current-state properties and evaluate the best recycling method based on the data.
Mechanical Testing
Precious Plastic Monash has utilised plastic manufacturing principles to create recycled products since its conception.
This project seeks to explore the effect of polymer identity, manufacturing techniques and extent of recycling on polymers’ mechanical properties, hoping to also see the benchmarking of PPM’s manufacturing methods.
Characterisation
The project explores the properties of PPM's typical feedstocks (PLA, PP, HDPE/LDPE) and determine if the polymer groups each have homogeneity in properties relating to their manufacturing. As PPM uses recycled feedstocks, this project also aimed to explore the variation in these properties between virgin and recycled polymer samples.
